The Importance of Cradle to Cradle® in Logistics

Sustainability is no longer just a trend—it is a necessity, especially in logistics. Companies are under increasing pressure to make their supply chains more environmentally friendly. A truly circular economy, consistently implemented, could be the solution.

Clarity Through Certification

How can outsiders reliably determine whether a company follows this principle? The Cradle to Cradle® certification provides clear and trustworthy guidance. The term translates to “from cradle to cradle,” reflecting the ambition to close the loop from origin to origin. This certification establishes high-quality standards and aims to design products in a way that ensures they can be fully reused or safely reintegrated into biological cycles at the end of their lifecycle. To achieve this, all materials used must be non-hazardous.

Cradle to Cradle® sets new benchmarks, going beyond traditional environmental protection. It focuses on resource conservation, energy efficiency, and waste reduction—not just minimizing the ecological footprint but actively contributing positively to the environment.

To achieve official Cradle to Cradle® certification, products are assessed in five key categories:

  1. Material Health
  2. Product Circularity
  3. Renewable Energy & CO₂ Reduction
  4. Responsible Water Management
  5. Social Responsibility Across the Supply Chain

C2C-Certified Products by WBG Pooling

At WBG Pooling, we prioritize sustainable reusable transport packaging. Although Cradle to Cradle® certification is not yet mandatory, we have proactively certified several of our products. Our WBG Pooling Foldable Crates black and WBG Pooling BigBox 1000 series have already been successfully certified. By mid-2025, we aim to achieve Cradle to Cradle® certification for our WBG Pooling Pallets as well.

Our certified transport packaging solutions are designed for long-term use, undergoing multiple usage cycles while maintaining structural integrity. They can be repaired several times without losing stability. Once they reach the end of their lifecycle, the materials are recycled, reprocessed, and repurposed for the production of new reusable transport packaging—ensuring a closed material loop.
